The BT-5 was a Soviet "Fast Tank" (Bystrokhodny Tank) introduced in 1933, famous for its high speed and unique convertible drive system. Based on the designs of American engineer J. Walter Christie, the BT-5 could run on its tracks for off-road combat or on its large road wheels (with the tracks removed) for rapid travel on paved roads, reaching speeds of over 45 mph (72 km/h).
