IJN Taiho Aircraft Carrier – 6,062 Piece Set
Japanese innovation. Armored flight deck.
The IJN Taiho represented Japan's attempt to build an armored aircraft carrier capable of withstanding punishment while projecting air power across the Pacific. Commissioned in March 1944, Taiho featured an armored flight deck, enclosed bow, and capacity for 75 aircraft—the largest carrier in the Imperial Japanese Navy when completed. Her career lasted just three months; during the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, a single torpedo hit created gasoline vapor that ignited catastrophically, destroying the ship and taking 1,650 crew with her. Taiho's loss demonstrated the vulnerability of even the most heavily protected carriers to submarine attack.
This 1:700 scale build captures the distinctive profile of Japan's super carrier. From the armored flight deck and enclosed bow design to the island structure and aircraft complement, every detail reflects Japanese naval aviation at its technological peak.
